I’m Maya Bagriantseva. I live in Riga and write about figure skating.

Figure skating has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I laced up my first pair of skates as a child and spent countless hours on the ice, eventually skating semi-professionally before deciding to turn my love for the sport into a career in storytelling.

Growing up, I dreamed of sharing the artistry and drama of figure skating with the world. I trained hard, competed, and learned firsthand the discipline and dedication the sport demands—experiences that now shape the way I cover it as a journalist.

Following that dream, I pursued a career in sports journalism, writing for a variety of outlets and covering competitions at every level, including the Olympics—a lifelong goal realized. Along the way, I’ve appeared on podcasts like The Skating Lesson and helped organize events such as the ISU Challenger Series, connecting fans to the heart of the sport.

Today, I continue to tell the stories behind the jumps, spins, and rivalries on the ice, bringing the excitement, artistry, and passion of figure skating to readers and fans around the world.
